Reviews

"McAlister's songs are interesting and wildly original, and his range of musical instruments and influences might make [Surplus Cheese] a guilty pleasure album..."   --  David A. Cobb - Splendid

"Out of every piece of music I've ever heard or listened to, this man is a genius. The music not only has a danceable beat, but it really gets across a true message that speaks directly to the soul..."   -- Vanguard382 - iTunes

"Lyrically, this is fun as hell, as McAlister walks the line between personal anecdote and playful observation.  People who are comfortable with musical comparisons, you're on your own-- Blonde Afro has to be heard, not read about.  4.1 out of 5"  -- Sean Dennison, The Equal Ground

"This is great stuff. Some very pointed and insightful lyrics mixed in with a bit of techno, influenced by damn near everyone. You all really need to hear what this guy is doing."  --  Radio Mike - The Fevered Brain of Radio Mike

"Really bizarre, fresh, and worth listening to."  -- KFJC radio

"You'll never hear anything like this! It's odd, but so original that you just can't dislike it. You've got to wonder what goes through the mind of someone who would write something like this. Are they talented? Sure. Are they creative? Definitely. Are they sane? ..."   --  Michael - GarageBand

"This is minimalism on a grand scale - tightly scored for the instruments, the texture strictly controlled by the choice of instruments playing at any given time. Immaculately simple, it's beautifully constructed and gets the message across to perfection."   --
Woodstock Taylor - GarageBand

I'm enjoying your cd. The music is a bit more complex/intelligent than my usual listening preferences (I'm a folk/country rock & bluegrass fan after all). But the lyrics are very strong, the tracks feel organic, and the variety of instrumentation (and the quality of the sounds & playing) is most impressive. Great job!
